Weaverland Auction was formed about 12 years ago by local farmers. It’s a true auction where you can buy local produce and flowers in bulk. It has really helped our local farmers because they no longer have to pull their horse-drawn loads to Leola (that’s the only other wholesale produce auction in the county). You’ll see trucks from Maryland, New Jersey and all over Pennsylvania loading up Lancaster County produce. Local restaurants, Shady Maple Farm Market, and other roadside stands also buy. If you sign up for a ticket, you too, can bid and purchase. But quantities are usually quite large. So beware! Once that auction fever hits it can be dangerous! When a friend wanted to put up some corn, we bid and won a smaller quantity to split….but it was still 27 dozen! We had to hire the kids next door at $2/hour (plus all the cookies and lemonade they could eat) to shuck the corn in the back yard. Now we just buy it off the farm stand. Still, it’s a great way to see how farmers make (or not) money…..it’s the real thing and not on any tourist map. Hours vary seasonally but never on Sunday.
