Nemours Estate is a 77-room mansion on 200 acres of gardens. Built in 1910 for the Alfred I duPont family, this is a stunning collection of furniture, art and stories. He was quite an inventor and equipped his home not only with hot water for bathing, but an ice cream room too. The house is spectacular, the grounds are amazing and the architecture and outdoor pools and steps will take your breath away. It is well worth the drive and an especially interesting thing to do on a rainy day. You’ll notice that it is on the grounds of the Children’s Hospital of Wilmington – or maybe that’s the other way around since he started the hospital. The vintage garage holds several antique automobiles. We love that you can walk through the whole house – from the billiards room in the basement to the bedrooms upstairs…with curators positioned throughout the house to answer your questions.
