Longwood Gardens

About Longwood Gardens

About 1 hour from the Inn

Longwood Gardens is one of the premier gardens in the world. With over 1,100 acres, it has something for everyone. Italian fountains, main fountains, entertainment, idea gardens, formal gardens, and flowers bursting forth no matter what path you take. Their fireworks and fountain shows are not to be missed….and, even though we haven’t seen them yet, I imagine their drone shows are just as exciting. Concerts in the small outdoor theater offer a nice break from walking. The conservatories and fountains have just been through an extensive upgrade and are at their best. DO NOT miss a chance to go here. They offer three different dining experiences – the renowned 1906 is very upscale and requires advance reservations. The Beer Garden is fun and casual and the Cafe has a pretty extensive menu ready to eat anytime. Definitely try the famous mushroom soup. YUM. We serve this at our family Christmas or Thanksgiving dinners. It boasts several different kinds of mushrooms, all grown locally in Kennett Square – the Mushroom Capital of the World! They’ve earned the title as this small community produces over a million pounds of mushrooms a day. Longwood is open every day, including most holidays, except for Tuesdays. If you go at Christmastime, be sure to attend the organ recital. They usually have a carol sing-alongs.
